Waiver Policy
Introduction
The Journal of Clinical Intensive Care and Medicine (JCICM) is committed to supporting global participation in scientific publishing. To ensure that financial constraints do not prevent researchers from disseminating their work, JCICM offers a Waiver Policy for Article Processing Charges (APCs).
Eligibility Criteria
Waivers or discounts may be considered for authors who meet one or more of the following conditions:
- Researchers affiliated with institutions in low- or lower-middle-income countries as defined by the World Bank.
- Early-career researchers with no active grant or institutional funding.
- Corresponding authors serving as active peer reviewers or editorial board members of JCICM.
- Authors submitting invited articles (e.g., editorials, commentaries).
Types of Waivers
- Full Waiver: 100% reduction in APCs, usually for authors from low-income countries.
- Partial Waiver: 25–75% reduction, based on financial need and contribution.
- Reviewer/Editor Waiver: Discounts provided to regular reviewers or board members.
Application Process
Authors must apply for a waiver at the time of submission. Applications submitted after acceptance will not be considered. To apply, authors should:
- Check the waiver option during submission in the online system.
- Provide a statement of financial need, including details of institutional or grant support.
- Submit supporting documents if requested (e.g., proof of institutional affiliation).
Decision Process
Waiver requests are reviewed by the editorial office and finance team. Authors are notified of the decision within 10 business days. Waiver approval or denial does not influence the editorial or peer review process.
Funding Support
JCICM encourages authors to explore institutional or national funding programs that support APCs. Many funders, including the Wellcome Trust, NIH, and European Research Council, permit grant funds to be used for APCs.
