Preservation and Archiving Policy
Commitment to Long-Term Preservation
The Journal of Clinical Intensive Care and Medicine (JCICM) is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of all published content. Our Preservation and Archiving Policy complies with best practices in scholarly publishing and guarantees that articles remain permanently available to readers and researchers worldwide.
Digital Preservation Services
JCICM partners with internationally recognized preservation initiatives to ensure redundancy and secure access, including:
- LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): Distributed network of libraries preserving journal content.
- CLOCKSS: Controlled LOCKSS system ensuring long-term, decentralized archiving.
- Portico: Digital preservation service providing continuity of access.
- PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN): Open Journal Systems-supported preservation for open access journals.
Institutional Repository Archiving
In addition to third-party services, JCICM encourages authors and institutions to archive articles in institutional repositories and national libraries to ensure multiple layers of redundancy.
Self-Archiving by Authors
Authors are permitted to deposit final published PDFs in:
- Institutional repositories.
- Subject repositories such as PubMed Central (where applicable).
- General repositories like Zenodo or Figshare.
File Formats and Metadata
JCICM preserves content in widely accessible formats (PDF, XML, HTML). Articles include metadata tagging for indexing and harvesting via OAI-PMH, ensuring discoverability in databases such as DOAJ, Google Scholar, and PubMed (where eligible).
Back-Up and Redundancy
Multiple copies of journal content are maintained on secure servers. Backups are performed regularly to prevent data loss due to hardware failure, cyber-attacks, or natural disasters.
In the Event of Journal Closure
If JCICM ceases publication, all published content will remain accessible through LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, and Portico. Arrangements with archiving partners ensure perpetual availability.
